A downloadable game for Linux

A high-speed fusion of the Arcade Classic and Endless Platform Runner chaos.

Tetromino Runner is a fast paced platformer in which you pilot a rogue block inside a corrupted Arcade Machine. Take control of the remains of the collapsing game engine to build yourself a path to safety, but be quick! The wall of corrupted binary is hot on your heels, and there is no time to waste!

“A mash-up in service to fans of the genre. A platformer where you build the level before you.”

Gameplay

Tetromino Runner will require every ounce of your puzzling and platforming prowess to make it to the top of the leader-boards.

You'll:

- Control the player — Tetro Dude needs to run from the Binary Wall of corrupted code that is tearing the game apart

- Control the Tetrominos — Build the level before you, making sure to clear some lines along the way to score points, but be careful - Blocks can be hazardous

- Collect Score — Trick, Collect, and Line Clear your way to high scores, squeezing every point before your distance traveled is applied as a fat juicy multiplier

- Use Portals — Slip away through a tear in space to gain some distance

- Avoid Enemies & Hazards — The corrupted Binary Wall is not the only threat to watch out for...

Key Features

Fun. Tetromino Runner was imagined by the team and developed only because it proved to us to be a fun idea.

Challenge. Tetromino Runner is hard. The team has done its best to onboard new players as nicely as possible, though the fact remains that this game is a test of skill and demands a mastery of its controls.

Objective

Score as many points as you can by staying alive and running as far as you are able.

Controls

Tetromino Runner supports both Gamepad (Recommended) and Keyboard, additionally the player is able to rebind their keys on either platform. Add a second controller or share the keyboard with a friend and try co-op play, one controls the player, the other the blocks!

System Requirements

Potato PCs welcome. Steam Deck support at full launch.

Hey, I wasn't sure what feedback form to use after playing it for the first time, so I'm going to give all my general thoughts here.

(I played for around 20-30 minutes, Keyboard controls)

The project is polished and is feeling almost content complete - which is awesome to see. The project visually honours the arcade aesthetic both with your assets and overall presentation.

The sound design and VFX is really on point and of the time also - and you have also done a great job of onboarding new players.

Onto the core game - personally as someone who has played a lot of Tetris in the past, I was just trying to play the "Tetris Component" - and I found it hard to immediately adapt to the "tug-of-war" playstyle going on between playing a Arcade Runner merged with Tetris, which is what is actually taking place.

I wonder if with the feedback you have recieved - players who are equally familiar with Arcade Runners and Tetris (or not at all) found it easier to pick up and play or do they too feel they're leaning into one playstyle more than the other?

On the Tetris side - I personally would prefer fast dropping to be performed with a single press. I also think holding the direction of the piece (left) should match the speed of tapping it. It moves too slow for my liking.

Do you plan on adding more options for the Tetris Component of the game - or is it a design choice to just use a Tetronimo System to build the platform and not actually just end up making Tetris again? From memory there was only one rotation direction for the pieces and it would be interesting to have configurations for the Tetronimo Rotation, Colours, Ghost Pieces & Queues.

The Platforming Side - I felt the camera was set up perfectly - and the Runner controls really well. There were some really precise platforming moments between line clears that I was glad didn't result in failure. The Runners' jumping and gravity too feels like it has been perfected through a fair amount of trial and error. So really nice work there.

I know the game encourages you to potentially build up or jump down to them - but I would prefer there was a higher frequency of garbage blocks in the middle (starting) lane of the screen, even if it's just one block (Maybe I need to get better, haha).

Last thing I will say is on the Death Wall behind the player. Not sure if this is correct and in your design - but to me the Death Wall is the "Peripheral Focus" of the game as I focused on controlling the Runner and building the platforms. I think it would be nice if it was less blended in with the other walls of the level box - maybe the cube and textures have more emissive effects on them.

Also a bug - twice when I finished a run, I would get the Game Over screen with the raining runner background - but nothing else visible and no way to return to the Main Menu.

Sorry for the long post but aside from those thoughts, I think the game is really awesome and you've done an amazing job so far.

Good luck and I can't wait to see where this project ends up!

Wow! What a flashy itch.io page! and a flashy game too! so much polish! Will be keeping an eye on this :3c
